Spirituality at Dedham Church of England Primary School
The Church of England's Vision for Education states a core desire that children will experience life in all its fullness (John 10:10). At Dedham Church of England Primary School, we believe that we need to give all of our children the chance to allow them to grow into the people God is calling them to be.
We explore Spirituality by educating the whole child, providing full life experiences to meet this desire, which includes immersion in an enriched and varied school and wider curriculum.
Our definition of Spirituality is that it is an ongoing, reflective journey. It is something that teaches us about questioning, understanding and relationships: relationships with ourselves, others, the world and beyond.
Spirituality enables our children to be happy, flourish, succeed and live life in all its fullness.
Spirituality is not the same as being religious.
We believe that by developing children's spirituality, we are enabling them to be reflective young people who really know who they are on the inside. Spirituality is an intrinsic part of our curriculum and is something that we develop as adults and as children throughout every day. Children develop their sense of inner self by exploring the ows, wows and nows of life, valuing each of these types of moments as being important in terms of making them who they are. Spiritual moments occur throughout the day and are recognised: time to be immersed in an enjoyable activity, a moment of stillness by the river on a local area visit to really take in surroundings, taking time to appreciate human achievement or consider the impact of an event on others, developing relationships throughout the school and whilst appreciating the beauty of nature at Forest School sessions.
